Luca Ragaini

Assistant Professor in Paleontology (GEO 01) at the Dept. of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa (1995-present)
His researcher activity concernes  invertebrate paleontology (Molluscs and Echinoids): systematic, taphonomy, paleoecology and paleobiogeography and may be summarized in some main topics: - Plio-Quaternary mollusk communities of mainland Ecuador, Galapagos, Chile and coastal Patagonia (Argentina). - Taphonomy and paleoecology of shell-concentrations: rich repositories of paleoecological, sedimentological and paleoclimatic information. - Plio-Pleistocene mollusk assemblages from Italy: systematic and paleoenvironmental reconstructions.
Recent field researches in some localities of the Atlantic Patagonia coast (Chubut and Santa Cruz Provinces) with related laboratory analyses allowed to improve  the knowledge of the effects of sea-level and climatic changes on the Holocene/Upper Pleistocene coastal environment integrating palaeogeographic, palaeoecological and taphonomic data coming up from rich shell beds and comparing these with their recent counterparts of adiacent areas.
